Buffalo ReFUSE (Video Installation) 






ReFuse is a multi-channel video installation, screening of landscape films of Buffalo NY. The installation is constructed from salvaged building materials with media picture and sound experienced on old CRT video monitors.


The installation and media will be publicly exhibited on the 1st floor of ReUse Action located at 980 Northampton Street, in East Side neighborhood of the city of Buffalo.



This Public Arts Project was made possible through a Kinetic Award from The Generator Fund (2025), sponsored by Buffalo Institute for Contemporary Art (BICA) and funded by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. And through site and materials support from ReUse Action.

Lewuga Benson - The Places I Know (2022) 9:38 min



As an interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker, Léwuga Tata Benson’s work bridges cultures and explores the dynamic interplay between identity, environmental sustainability, and human connection.Rooted in his Ogoni heritage in Nigeria, Benson draws inspiration from the tradition of repurposing to prevent waste. Embracing Ogoni storytelling, Benson’s work engages all the senses, integrating songs, dance, and props, creating a holistic experience for visitors. His artistic practice incorporates these traditions to create immersive narratives that provoke thought, foster empathy, and celebrate cultural richness.


Jason Bernagozzi - Nostalgia (2014) 7:42 min



Jason Bernagozzi is an artist and technologist living and working in Colorado. Their work seeks to deconstruct and remix the cultural codes embedded within the psyche of an increasingly mediated world. To achieve this, a central feature of their practice is the creation of video software and hardware used as a real time instrument for improvisation and exploration. In particular, they are interested in the emergent properties of image processing as a vehicle for a critical examination of the power structures embedded within information technologies. Jason is also a co-founder of the experimental media art non-profit organization Signal Culture and Associate Professor of Electronic Art at Colorado State University.

Michael Chernoff - Fougeron Street (2023-2025)


Michael Chernoff is a filmmaker and video artist. His immersive and multimedia productions examine the enviornmental presence of video screens and the hyperreal influence of media, through films, installations, and 3D VR scenes. Addressing both past and present eras of video technology, Chernoff’s practice of assembling together analog and digital video devices, blurs distinct eras of screens and cameras into what he calls Video Archaeology. His work has been supported by institutions such as FEED Media Center, BICA, Buffalo International Film Festival, and the Chroma Art Film Festival. He teaches digital and 3D arts in the School of Visual Art + New Media at SUNY Fredonia.


Karl Frederick Mattson - Here Without You (2021) 5:07 min



Karl Frederick Mattson is an image-based artist living and working in Hudson, New York. He used to live in Rust Belt cities like Buffalo, New York, and North Adams, Massachusetts. He occasionally works as an art handler and currently works as the Analog Facilities Manager of the Photography Program at Bard College. He quietly uses pictures, video, and ephemera to study overlooked nuances of people and the environment. Furthermore, Karl is the owner and operator of 542films, an independent video production company rooted in stories of local people, places, and the everyday.

Dave Mosier - Rust Belt Diary (2021) 7:07 min



I wish to investigate the discourse surrounding power dynamics between human and machine systems. In my gallery work I seek to implement hypermediated TV wall installations in both traditional and alternative art spaces.Through exploring the mediums of Cable Access Television, 3D scanning, Virtual Reality design, WebVR Video Performance and Installation Art, I aim to help public viewers / users engage new media forms under the moniker ‘DaVideo Tape’. 


Kalpana Subramarian - Wool Gathering (2020) 3:27 min



Kalpana Subramanian, PhD, is an artist, filmmaker and researcher interested in transcultural and interdisciplinary approaches to experimentation with film and media. Her arts-based doctoral research proposes a novel mode of framing and experiencing cinema through a consideration of breath poetics, drawing from non-Western approaches to the embodiment and media. Her films have received awards at various festivals including the Documentary Festival of History and Archeology (Italy, 2015), Montana CINE International Film Festival (USA, 2003, 2005) and the Center for Media Studies Vatavaran Environment and Wildlife Film Festival (India, 2008). She has curated experimental film programs that have been presented at Simon Fraser University (Canada), Harvard FAS CAMLab, Alternative Cinema series (Colgate University, USA) and Bristol Experimental Expanded Film (UK) among others. She is an Assistant Professor of Cinema Arts at the University of Colorado Boulder.


Annette Daniels Taylor - My Neighborhood (2018) 9:26 min



Annette Daniels Taylor is an award winning artist scholar. Her poems are featured in The Poetry Collection of the University Libraries Buffalo, New York's 15th Three Poems chapbook series. She received her BA in Communications and Performance at Empire State College SUNY. She taught Writing for Broadcast at SUNY Buffalo State University, and Acting with D'Youville University's Dramatic Theater Arts MFA program. Annette is a recipient of the Creatives Rebuild New York Artist Employee Program 2022-24 and is the founding Director of QueenagerProjects, LLC an arts and media production studio. She is finishing her MFA thesis at SUNY University at Buffalo, Department of Media Study.
